Genzano and the Chigi Palace

yesterday was a fabulous day in Italy, once again. we got another tour of the Chigi Palace. the furniture that is here has been here since the 1700's. when the Chigi family sold the Palace, they left everything so that it could be used for the museum. then we went to Genzano which is the cutest town about 15 minutes away (walking, of course). we went shopping here and enjoyed some cold drinks. i was expecting the weather to be a little cooler.. i was completely wrong. here are some pictures from the day:

There are HUGE paintings in this room. the one in the middle was one that was stolen during WWII when the Germans took over the Palace. they still have never found it.
Bert, Katie, and I
the street on the way to Genzano. Beautiful.
Bernini designed and built this table that is in the palace. there are two of them and collectively, they are worth about 3.5 million doll-hairs. #saywhhhaatttt
the bridge that connects Ariccia to Albano. it was build in like 1800's
these are the ceilings in some of the Palace.. hand painted and carved. can you imagine?
this is where we had happy hour yesterday. and yes, leah should be a model.
This painting is of St. Augustine and a small child. The child is trying to put all the water of the ocean into the shell. Puzzled, St. Augustine asks the child what he is doing. He responds by telling the Saint that his impossible attempt to fill a shell with all of the water of the ocean is synonymous St. Augustine's attempt to reason out the Trinity (the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.) The painting's message is that the mystery of the Trinity may not be fully understood by the sinful human's mind. -by Kate Wagner [thanks, Kate]
this is Pope Alexander XVII.. i think.

it sure was a fun day. i feel beyond privileged to be here and learning the things i am learning.

tune in next week for more updates
