the hidden path

we were blessed to see some of the great monuments in Roma yesterday. while we're saving the big ones for thursday, i loved getting to see the small ones that most people don't get to see. first, we went to the Catacombs of St. Sebastain. it was where christians would have to bury their dead because they do not believe in cremation. then we went to the "bone crypt". there are over 4,000 persons' bones in this place. i wish i could have taken some pictures, but i couldnt. we had lunch in the cutest little square; kate and i shared pizza and bruschetta [yummm]. i got to see the first bridge ever built by the romans! that was pretty cool. we also saw the jewish ghetto; the romans forced the jews to live in a small concentrated area for about 200 years.. i think.

while it was an exhausting day, it was so worth it and such a blast. on the bus ride home, it was complete silence because we all were sleeping. i have a feeling that will happen quite often. :)

here are some pictures from the day:

the catacombs of St. Sebastains. over 80,000 tombs in this one catacomb alone! there are supposedly about 40 around the city of Rome.

this is a sculpture of Jesus done by Bernini. at 82 years old, this was the last sculpture he ever did! it was lost for 100 years and was found within the century.

beautiful church
on the first bridge ever made!
this is the jewish ghetto; you can see an addition that was added to the top. supposedly, a family lives there.

over and out. long day tomorrow.
