Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio

two of the CUTEST towns we've been in thus far! it was a chilly day here in Italy which was so lovely. i loved pulling out my leggings and Patagonia jacket this morning. we are all anxiously awaiting fall.

so the day started at Civita di Bagnoregio. this town used to be big, back in its prime. there used to be two rivers that flowed around the whole city; however, over time, it eroded away the city. the city has begun to crumble gradually. now, only 20-60 people live in the little town of Civita [crazzyyy, that's like our family get-togethers]. it sits on a tall hill because everything around it has fallen. it was the cutest town with so much character to it. we walked around, gazed at the great view, had a chocolate cappuccino, and took some pictures. i got some gifts too, but im not going to say on the world wide web [wink].

our next stop was Orvieto. this was the cutest town too. we went to the St. Patricks well, which was like the cooollestt thing ever. from the top, it looks like a big, circular building. but as you enter it, its a long dome that goes 100+ feet down into the ground. there are windows inside the well. im not sure what their purpose used to serve, but for us, it made cute pictures. for lunch, we ate at this little restaurant. i ordered a hamburger, thanking Jesus that i would finally get some beef! except that today, they were out of beef. so i got some delicious ravioli instead. then up in the town, we went to my favorite church yet: the Orvieto Cathedral of San Brizio. the beautiful marble is exquisite. the outside has real gold on it, too! i think the stripes all around it are my favorite. it made for a good photo shoot.

here are some snap shots of the day:

Civito; the rest of the town has fallen off the cliff!

some people from England were on their holiday vacation touring Europe. Here, they are sketching Civito. I hope to be that cool one day.
St. Patrick's Well.. i was only about 3 floors down.. there are like 20 stories and over 400 stairs. [yikes]
